New OSHA Administrator Confirmed

Released December 7, 2009

Last week, the Senate voted to confirm David Michaels as the assistant secretary of labor for OSHA. Dr. Michaels is a research professor at the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at the George Washington Univ. School of Public Health and Health Services and former Assistant Secretary of Energy for Environment, Safety and Health. Michaels has advocated for increased funding to support OSHA’s enforcement efforts. Michaels’ confirmation gives OSHA its first permanent administrator since Ed Foulke resigned in Nov. 2008.
